Symptoms

  • Car starts ok, but many accessories won't work.
  • I.e. radio, wipers, dash lights etc. won't work.
  • Key won't return to the on position.

Diagnosis

  • There is a broken or worn out component inside the ignition switch.

Ford Dealers's Solution

  • Buy a new Steering Column - over $2000
  • Come on ford - are you serious? Do you really want us to buy Holdens?

Wrecker's Solution

  • Buy a new Steering Column - approx $1500
  • The second hand steering column will probably develop the same issue.

Our Solution

  • We can fix this issue from around $295 + return courier.
    • Courier the bare steering column to us with the key.
      • Repair $295.
      • Return courier:
        • South Island $15.
        • North Island $40

    • Or: Leave your car with us for 48 hours.
      • Location - Ladbrooks area, 10 mins South of Christchurch.
      • We will do the following: remove the steering column, disassemble the steering column, disassemble the ignition, check the ignition to see if it suffers from one or both of Problem 1 and Problem 2, repair the ignition, reassemble everything, refit the steering column.
        • $420.
